Pilatus is the local mountain of Luzern in Switzerland. It has several peaks such as the Mittaggüpfi (1,917 m) and the Widderfeld (2,075 m). The Pilatus legend, which originated in late antiquity, was particularly popular in the Middle Ages – the mountain was first mentioned in a document in 1475 as Pilatus
