▷ Memoir of loss X by Maarten Demmink, 2015 | Oil Painting for Sale Cheap

Executed between 2013 and 2016, these small size paintings of the “Memoirs of Loss” series depict houses struck by natural disasters: hurricanes, floods, dust storms, dam failures… This series is based on real events that happened, for most of them, in the Deep South of the United States, a region that has always fascinated Maarten Demmink. The varied deteriorations suffered by these simple sheds, shotgun and colonial houses produce a new repertoire of forms, like an architecture sculpted by the excess of nature, made of cracks, lowerings, collapses and inclinations.
