The Antarctic continent concentrates all the geographical superlatives: the only continent entirely covered by ice, the largest reserve of fresh water, the strongest winds and the lowest temperatures. More importantly, it is both the only continent entirely reserved for peace and science by international agreement, and the only one whose land officially belongs not to any one country but to all mankind.

Created during a 13-month wintering at the Dumont d’Urville polar research station, the series documents the original state of nature of the Antarctic continent to illustrate the results of this unique example of international environmental protection effort.
